Where's Rhode Island?

... and Oklahoma and Idaho?

Just uncovered this old gem the other day. Built by Playskool.

I must have been given it as a gift in the mid-1950s.  Obviously it was built before 1959, as Alaska and Hawaii are not included.

I will take credit for losing Rhode Island.  I remember being upset about that.  But where did Oklahoma and Idaho go?  Jaimie and Tyler, any idea? hehe.

(Well... maybe they're in a box somewhere with other old toys.)

Tools of the day; this year versus last year

Here's an image of the tools I used today.  Air temperature hit 55F about 2 pm and there was no ground frost, so I thought it was a good idea to finish up the leaf raking I never got to this fall.  Armed with two rakes and a trusty old bed sheet I was able to remove a lot of leaves and acorns from the backyard, now that the trees that fell during the October storm have been removed.  I especially enjoyed the fact that there were (1) no ticks (I presume) and (2) no mosquitos.

Quite a bit different from last year's tool of the day

My favorite Christmas Miniature

Over the weekend Laurie and I put away our Christmas decorations and dragged the tree out to the side yard to await the annual tree-pickup day sponsored by the Fire Department.

So, as we picked up little things here and there throughout the house I decided to take a couple of pictures of one of my favorite miniatures:  a 5" tall refrigerator.  With the little eye-loop on the top you could use this as a tree decoration, but we don't.

Happy New Year... with a blast from the past

Happy New Year to everybody who reads this post; but this "blast from the past" (see image below) will be appreciated perhaps mostly by "older" Concordians (like Andy, Richard, Laurie and Dad) who remember this store in the middle of Concord center, with its huge paint pot as the cashier's desk in the center of the store.  I don't remember when it went out of business or relocated (to Acton?) but my best guess would be in the middle 1960's...maybe.

[This is the cover of an old pad of tracing paper my mom has.]
